Bula Kavananda

“When I found Bula in 2013, it was a bad time in my life, drinking heavily, not sure which way life was going. I showed up here (Bula Kafe) and Bill served me my first shell. I finished my shell and thought it tasted like shit, and I didn’t feel anything, so when I was walking out the door Bill was like, just keep coming back buddy, just keep coming back.

So I showed up again and Gabby was there and I told her I didn’t feel the Kava yet so she filled up a dog bowl of Kava and she said “Here drink this Ross”, so I drank it, and it was probably about a good 24 ounces, I sat there a few minutes, and after about like 10 minutes, I was like, “I get it”. I got muddy for the 1st time.

I showed up a 3rd time and I found myself not going to the bars, not drinking alcohol and I started showing up because there were all these people here and they were all happy, they were smiling and they weren’t drunk. Everyone looked like they cared about each other, such a diverse group of people and I was hooked instantly.
